Background

The Indian Sugar industry is one of the largest in the world, next to Brazil.It is the second-largest agro-based industry and it contributes significantly to the socio-economic development of the nation.

Bagasse cogeneration at sugar factories in India is one of the major renewable energy sub-sectors, with proven socio-economic-environmental benefits to all stakeholders.

As of 31 March 2023, India’s installed capacity stood at 10,248 MW of cogeneration, with 9,433.56 MW of bagasse cogeneration.

The potential of bagasse-based cogeneration in Sugar Mills in India has been revised and is estimated to be 15,000 MW in near future.

In view of rapid growth in this sector, Cogen India is coming up with “Leading awards for recognizing Excellence and Innovation in the Cogeneration Industry”.

Vision

The National Cogeneration Award will create a platform to recognize the outstanding work of co-operative and private sugar mills having cogeneration power plants.

It will also acknowledge the excellence at work of the respective officials involved.

Objectives

To reward the outstanding performance & recognize the significant contribution made by individuals in enhancing the plant performance.

To honor and convey gratitude for their responsibilities & roles as well as stimulate, encourage working of Cogen Power Plants / Individuals.

To create an enthusiastic environment for all the individuals / Institutions working in the sector.
